Recently our Lajamanu girls were invited to the Michael Long Learning & Leadership Centre (MLLLC) in Darwin for a week. The girls who were selected to attend had strong school attendance and showed natural leadership abilities amongst their peers. As the future leaders of their community, this opportunity was invaluable.

The girls spent the week learning about the different qualities that make up leadership, including maintaining a healthy team, being fair, embracing team work and helping others.

The girls also took part in a variety of activities including fitness testing, football skills, seatbelt awareness and cooking. And fit in some sight seeing around Darwin visiting Parliament House, St John’s Hospital, Haileybury School, the Leanyer waterpark and Kingpin bowling.

The girls were fortunate enough to meet the Northern Territory Minister for Sport & Recreation on International Women’s Day. They were also lucky enough to sit in on a pre-game talk with the under 16’s Woomers (National Indigenous Team), which was particularly exciting for the girls.

Finally, and without a doubt the highlight of the trip was meeting the legendary CYRIL RIOLI!!! who was also at the MLLLC. What a thrill!
