At the end of last term, 16 senior girls and boys from Yuendumu were treated to a special trip to Alice Springs as a reward for excellent attendance at school.

Off they went excitedly on the first day to the BIG4 Holiday Park where they enjoyed swimming in the pool and splashing down on the waterslide in the sun. Later that afternoon, the students were taken to the annual Parrtjma Festival of Light. The students were mesmerised by the light installations and productions which looked absolutely stunning over the MacDonnell Ranges backdrop. Later that evening, they finished off their super fun day with some games of ten pin bowling at the local alley.

The next day the senior girls chose to visit the annual Desert Mob Art Exhibition at Araluen Arts Centre featuring works from central Australian Indigenous artists. The girls happily wandered and enjoyed looking at all the beautiful art and specialty products; some even made by members of their own families from Yuendumu!

The senior boys chose to do some shopping at Bunnings to buy materials to build a pizza oven in their classroom at Yuendumu school. They couldn’t wait to get back to school and start cooking pizzas!

All in all, the students had such a wonderful weekend – thank you to Tenille, our Wanta Director at Yuendumu for organising and providing such wonderful incentives to get the Yunendumu students to school on a regular basis.

Well done kids, keep up the good work!
