With support from SCfC (Stronger Communities for Children), the Wanta Academy girls from Arlparra enjoyed a jam packed weekend of fun in Alice Springs.  Every girl who attended has shown a great attitude towards their learning and have been living to the values of our Wanta Academy space over the first 3 weeks of the school term. It was a fantastic weekend and the girls represented their community wonderfully.

The trip started on Saturday with a bumpy ride from community to town, a 2.5 hour trip. We picked up some supplies for healthy lunch and headed to Big 4 Macdonnell Holiday Park to check in. The girls enjoyed a few hours in the pool riding the slide before we headed out for the night.

We enjoyed a delicious dinner at the Gillen Club followed by some competitive 10 pin bowling. Congratulations to Kirani, Shainna and our CEO Demian for their big wins! Chocolate sundaes to finish off a big day and prepare for a busy Sunday.

Sunday morning kicked off with some more enjoyment of the Big 4 pool and slide before we checked out and headed for the MegaFauna Museum. The girls learnt about giant animals that roamed Central Australia many years ago and about the role of archaeologists in discovering the many fossils at Alcoota. At lunch time we headed out to Simpsons Gap, about half an hour out of town to soak up some scenery before heading back to town for rock climbing at the YMCA. I was so proud of many of the girls who pushed through their fear and made it to the top of the rock wall. It was also great to see the girls supporting each other, talking one another through the best way to make it up the wall.

It is safe to say the girls slept the entire trip home to Arlparra on Sunday evening and created some amazing memories. A big thank you to the Stronger Communities for Children board for their support that allowed us to facilitate this exciting opportunity for our students.
