The Wanta cup is an annual event made up of different sporting events, games and challenges. This exciting and light-hearted event is something that each community marks on their calendar as one of their favourite trips for the whole year.

The cup is something students can display proudly in their Wanta Room, as well as being a strong talking point for the students involved and inspiration for students who are curious about what it takes to get their hands on this ‘prestigious award’. For the Directors and staff, it comes with bragging rights for the entire year.

This year, students from Ngukurr, Lajamanu and Beswick made their way to the Katherine Indoor Sports Centre for the weekend to participate in a series of events which included volleyball, basketball, soccer, Jenga and dodgeball. Following the events, the students enjoyed lots of fun downtime with different people from various communities. They had a swim at the hot springs, ate some amazing food as well as watched a movie on the big screen.

Ngukurr, being the reigning champions came into the weekend full of optimism and excitement. Beswick boasted the largest squad, they were full of energy and deserve huge credit for their positivity, competitiveness and energy in everything they did. However, Lajamanu were too strong and dominant on the day and their humble display of sportsmanship was the reward as they brought home the Wanta Cup.

We are so proud of all the student’s efforts and more importantly how well all students participated in each event. It is so lovely to see everyone enjoying each other’s company and the highlight of the whole weekend was the connection and friendships that were made between all three communities. It is something that will be cherished and remembered for a very long time.

Well done to all the Wanta staff for putting together such a wonderful event. We would like to thank the Katherine Indoor Sport Centre for hosting such an amazing event and Selena Uibo for taking the time to talk to the kids.

Looking forward to next year!
