Lajamanu girls meet the AFL Women’s Adelaide team
Last week the AFL Women’s competition held their inaugural match between the Adelaide Crows and the Freemantle Dockers at TIO Stadium in Darwin. In communities across the Territory ‘football is life’ so it was pure delight and excitement when eight of the girls from our Lajamanu girls Academy were chosen to attend based on their excellent school attendance and behaviour at school. The eight girls selected and our Wanta staff excitedly made the nine hour trek to watch the Adelaide Crows Women’s team take on the Dockers. On the morning of the game the girls were lucky enough to meet and talk to the Crows players as they were finishing their final training session. This was super exciting for the girls and they were buzzing all day afterwards. Some of the girls were interviewed for the ABC news and made it on TV. The Crows were gracious enough to not only give their time but they also donated some of their clothes, balls and posters to the girls. Our girls were excited and enjoyed watching the Crows win.
