Arlparra Wanta girls playing in the Youth Girls Football competition in Alice springs | Wanta Aboriginal Corporation
Last week the Wanta girls in Arlparra were given the opportunity to be part of the Youth Girls six-week football season In Alice Springs, Northern Territory. They are playing as part of the Wests Football Club. Each week girls are selected to head to Alice Springs to play in the competition, they are selected based on their school attendance, their efforts in class and attitude towards others. Three girls from our Arlparra Academy were selected last week by our Director who said they represented strong values towards learning, education and behavior every day. We are hoping that this opportunity and incentive to participate will influence more girls to come to school regularly. The Youth Girls program is a development program aimed at increasing the number of female footballers throughout communities and Alice Springs. The competition is made up of girl’s familiar with the game and girls who have never played before. Sides are being filled quickly and the girls are creating a fun and positive competition. The three girls chosen to attend from Arlparra demonstrated some fantastic marking and kicking skills and had a great time making friends and enjoying the game. These are the kind of opportunities Wanta is so excited to provide to students as it creates a sense of self-worth and belonging. We hope more of our local girls can be selected to participate in the coming weeks!!!
