Some of our senior students from Yuendumu recently had the exciting opportunity to travel to Perth for their long-awaited Senior Rewards Trip – and what a time they had!
Twelve students, full of energy and curiosity, along with our dedicated staff, boarded the plane from the red heart of the Territory to the bustling streets of Perth.
For many, it was their first time in a big city – and they made every moment count.
First stop was the iconic Perth Zoo, where the group was amazed by animals they’d only ever seen in books or on screens.
From the majestic giraffes to cheeky monkeys and the incredible big cats, the zoo was a real eye-opener and sparked lots of questions and excitement.
The adventure continued underwater at the Aquarium of Western Australia (AQWA). Walking through the giant glass tunnel surrounded by sharks, stingrays, and schools of fish was a highlight.
The kids were fascinated by the diversity of marine life and loved learning about ocean habitats.
Throughout the week, we made great use of Perth’s public transport system, jumping on buses, trains, and even ferries to reach our daily activity locations.
Travelling this way gave the students a true city experience and added another layer of fun and independence to the trip.
No visit to Perth would be complete without a stop in Fremantle, where the group enjoyed a delicious meal of fish and chips by the water.
The sea breeze, seagulls, and friendly vibes made it a memorable afternoon.
Another highlight was attending a local footy game, where the students joined the crowd in cheering on the teams.
The energy in the stadium was electric, and it was especially exciting for our footy-mad students to see the game played live at such a high level.
The Senior Rewards Trip was more than just a holiday – it was a chance for these young leaders to explore new places, build stronger friendships, and celebrate their hard work throughout the year.
They represented Yuendumu Wanta with pride, respect, and good spirit everywhere they went.
We’re proud of each and every one of them – and we’re already looking forward to the next adventure!
