Term 4 2025 Marks 2 Years of our Bagai Barista Social Enterprise cafe operating in Ngukurr.
It has been a slow but steady journey for the cafe to become what it is today, a cherished part of the Ngukurr community.
From the humble classroom beginnings, many students have come through the Ngukurr Wanta Program being involved in the Bagai Barista cafe, with some new faces learning barista and customer service skills in 2025, to students who have since gotten jobs outside of school with help from the skills they learnt in their involvement in the social enterprise cafe.
We have had our fair share of hardships during this time, weather, lack of power, graffiti, all of which has helped us build and grow into being able to be open daily, with access to air conditioning to keep us going through the build up and power to help us get through the wet season.
We wouldn’t be where we are today without the help of a lot of people, including our amazing previous Wanta Staff members who began teaching Ngukurr students to make coffee and then encouraging students to make their ideas bigger and better and turning Bagai Barista into a project the whole Ngukurr community could be involved in and proud of. We also thank all of the sponsors who have helped us with funding to keep the project going and the support of Ngukurr community members, and visitors to the community.
2025 has seen new milestone goals be met with student made food being sold in the cafe, as well as Bagai Barista helping support 16 Ngukurr School students to get their Certificate I in Hospitality with help from the skills they have learnt being in the cafe. It has been a great journey for both staff and students as we continue to learn, and grow our little community social enterprise cafe. We can’t wait to see what 2026 has in store for us, in the meantime we look forward to celebrating Halloween and Christmas in the Bagai Barista Cafe!
